Don performs familiar songs to maximize children's involvement. Shows
can be targeted for kids ages 2-3 , 4-6 and school-age kids in grades 1-5. Don sings and plays guitar and harmonica while using pre-recorded bass, drums and keyboard sounds he makes
in his studio, Rainbow Music, a teaching and recording studio in Glastonbury,
CT. Don has performed full-time for 29 years and is the Founder and Director
Emeritus of the Connecticut Songwriters Association .
The show includes songs from the The Wiggles plus Raffi tunes and
songs such as: Questions, Dorothy Queen of the Roses, Can You Point Your Fingers and Do the Twist, Baa Baa Black

Under One Sky, Shake My Sillys and Normal Kids are known to many kids and
are reinforced with props like: a tub with brushes and shower caps, an oven, chef's hat, a pot of soup, color swatches and printed cards, large animal posters, big lollipops, Bingo cards, Dorothy the Dinosaur, Barney, a lion, Puff, Jeremiah bull frog, beluga whale, hula hoops, and 20 rhythm instruments to form a kid's band to the tune of
Playing In The Same Band, and/or If You Can't Find A Reason.

It is widely accepted that music is the universal language. We all have hearts that actually beat to a waltz tempo or 3/4 time and according to most vocal instructors, 95% of humans, unless physically impaired, can sing. All cultures place great value on music and most educators pretty much agree that music plays a big part in the early development of children.
This discussion and workshop deals with the following areas:
Definitions (musical terms) Handouts provided.
Materials and Equipment: keyboard (with adapter) or piano, cassette and / or CD player with
headphones, portable tape recorder, blank tape and tapes and CDs of
children's songs, charts with words to songs, pictures of adult
musical instruments, various rhythm instruments.
Types of Instruments: 1. Sound makers- pots, pans, cans filled with corn kernels, dried beans or
little stones. 2. Rhythm instruments- percussion instruments that are
hit, pounded, shaken or rubbed such as rhythm sticks, triangle, maracas,
bells, drums etc.3. Melody instruments on which tune
as can be played like
piano, xylophone, recorder, flute. 4. Harmony instruments- guitar, banjo,
autoharp, ukulele. 5.Orchestral and band instruments - violin, trumpet,
saxophone, harmonica, and countless other "ethnic" instruments.
Three Basic Components of Music:
1. Melody (scales, middle C, do re me etc.)
2. Rhythm (chants, poems, rhymes, to facilitate creative movement using different body parts)
3. Lyrics (words) echo songs and rounds
